Makenna Hatter-Paxton (she/her) is a multi-disciplinary artist living in Austin, Texas since 1987. She began making art in 2017 after leaving a 12 year career in the legal field. She was introduced to oil painting in 2019 and subsequently shifted her art practice to revolve around painting the figure.

Hatter-Paxton’s technical and conceptual training was shaped by her painting mentors and her time studying at Texas State University and Austin Community College. Hatter-Paxton earned her BFA, with a concentration in painting, from Texas State University in May 2022. She’ll begin graduate studies with a concentration in painting at the University of Houston in the fall of 2024.

Apart from her art practice, Hatter-Paxton teaches painting classes as well as workshops on woodworking for painters. She manages and works on a native habitat restoration project with her husband on their ranch in South Austin: Pretty Pool Ranch. She is a beekeeper and mom to one rescue dog and flock of chickens.
