All classes are held in my studio, located off IH35, just 15 minutes south of downtown Austin.

Prices include all paint, solvents, rags, tape, and gloves, as well as the use of the studio’s brushes, easel, miscellaneous tools, and palettes during class time.  All you need to bring to class is yourself!

Canvases and panels are available for purchase separately.

Painting 201:

Painting 201 is for those who may be new to painting and would like to deepen their painting practice.  This class is also well-suited for those who have an established painting practice and want to explore new techniques, media, and concepts.

Painting 201 classes will vary from student to student because I tailor each class to meet the specific goals and interests of each student.  Topics I teach in Painting 201 typically include:

  • Types of painting media and painting surfaces

  • Painting terms

  • Color theory

  • Color mixing and how to build a palette

  • Composition types

  • How to choose imagery

  • How to explore and establish concepts

  • Tools, tips, and tricks for painting representationally

  • Work of the “old masters” as well as the contemporary masters

To maximize your experience in this class, I’ll correspond with you before our session to get a feel for your painting goals.  I’ll have the studio prepared for your arrival so we can get right to work when your class begins.

Basic painting experience for Painting 201 is recommended.

Workshop A Work-In-Progress:

Workshop A Work-In-Progress is perfect for those who are in the middle of a painting and are “stuck.” Together we’ll discuss your goals for the painting, then troubleshoot issues and craft several different solutions.

You’ll bring your in-progress painting to this class, as well as any brushes, specific paint colors, or tools that you prefer, (though I do provide all the supplies you’ll need!) We’ll work through any roadblocks, whether it be proportion problems, compositional issues, issues with the paint, or color issues.  You’ll have time during class to implement the solutions we come up with.  If you don’t finish your painting during our session, I’ll check in with you the following week to see how your painting is progressing.
